Who we are

The mining divestment campaign is promoted by the “Churches and Mining Network“, an ecumenical space, made up of Christian communities, pastoral teams, religious congregations, theological reflection groups, bishops, pastors and laity who seek to respond to the challenges of the impacts and violations of socio-environmental rights caused by mining activities in the territories where we live and work.

We are united and inspired by faith and hope in the God who created life and Mother Nature; a God who calls us to build a world where all people live with the dignity of the sons and daughters of God, in perfect harmony with mother Earth and all Creation.

We accompany the faith, hope and work of believing people, institutions and communities who defend harmonious coexistence between human beings and Mother Earth every day, in the face of projects and lifestyles that impact them, an expression of great external interests and distant from the communities.

Values that inspire our Network:

We seek to be faithful to the values of the Gospel of Jesus of Nazareth. In this perspective, we give priority to truth, the defence of creation, defence of life, the fight for justice for all, the promotion of peace, the full exercise of human and nature rights.

Our network is committed to strengthening popular movements and sectors, democratic values, gender equality, respect for multiculturalism, interculturalism and interreligious dialogue and ecumenism.

We believe in the creative capacity of human beings, in the strength of popular organizations, in the importance of solidarity, mysticism and the commitment of faith communities.

Like many people and organizations around the world, we endorse the call of Pope Francis, in his Encyclical “Laudato Sí”, to care for and defend the Common House, threatened with death by an economic system and human sharing that leads us to a dramatically futureless situation.
